New Student Access
App State employees (faculty & staff) will use alternate authentication to establish an account password. This requires unique identifiable information that is verified securely.
Alternate authentication requires the following to confirm your identity before the process can be continued:
University ID number (Banner ID)
Last four digits of Social Security number
Date of birth (month, day and year)
New Student Process
Signing-in: MyMountaineer portal vs. Google & other university resources
Your Appalachian State University (App State) student account is different from your MyMountaineer portal account and requires new credentials.
You receive your App State student username and Gmail account through the MyMountaineer portal shortly after admission to App State. Your MyMountaineer login is valid only until the start of your first semester.
Your App State login credentials will be used for the following and more:
Access App State Gmail including Google Calendar, Chat, Drive and other Google applications;
Login and register for Duo–App State’s two-factor authentication (2FA);
Access class registration through AppalNet Self-Service;
Set up and access billing and payments by Touchnet;
Access your AppCard online and track your meal plan usage.
For help creating your password and setting up security questions, see Password Setup & Security Guidelines.
