Information Concerning Windows 7 Installation for Campus
Information Technology professionals from across campus are currently evaluating Windows 7 (Microsoft's newest operating system) to ensure its compatibility with ASU systems, various software programs and online applications.
We are excited about the new and improved features Windows 7 offers. As a friendly reminder, however, Windows 7 is currently not a supported operating system for the university community. We plan to have a supported Windows 7 desktop environment sometime this spring.
ASU faculty and staff: Please do NOT install Windows 7 until we announce that we have completed our evaluation and can provide proper support. University applications such as the Adobe Creative Suite, SPSS, etc. are NOT AVAILABLE in this environment.
Explanation of Computer Issues on Tuesday, January 19th
Information Technology Services would like to take the opportunity to explain why some IT issues were occurring yesterday. On Monday, the air conditioning for our secondary data center experienced a major failure. Hot air caused many servers to shut down. This caused problems with our password change system and caused email issues for some people.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the majority of services were restored. HVAC professionals are currently working in our secondary data center to rectify the AC problems.
Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve problems.
