October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month

Dear Faculty/Staff,

October 2016 marks the 13th annual National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) event sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security in cooperation with the National Cyber Security Alliance “to increase the awareness and prevention of online security problems.”

In support of NCSAM, ITS is pleased to offer security awareness resources and opportunities to the University Community including:

  • Online Security Awareness Training For All Faculty / Staff!  - All University faculty/staff are now eligible to take SANS Security The Human Online Training Class! This training will help you identify and safeguard yourself from online cyber threats and risks.  To get started just visit: security.appstate.edu/securing-the-human.

  • October Mobile Device Security Checkup - Mondays and Tuesdays from 11am-2pm at PSU contact tables, ITS will be providing free security check-ups for student and faculty/staff mobile devices.  Stop by and see if your device is safe & secure!
  • Campus Security Presentations - ITS is hosting three security talks this month to discuss important privacy and security topics relevant to students, faculty, and staff.  These include:

“Back To School In CyberSecurity” - Larry Bridges, CS Lecturer, AppState Alum, and Retired Global Chief Information Security Officer Haynesbrand, Inc, will present on Information Security trends and personal cybersecurity tips.
