Appalachian State is currently in the process of significantly upgrading the servers that host the personal pages of faculty, staff and students on campus. The new servers offer more services, more capacity, and more stability while using a fraction of the resources of the old system. We have also enhanced the security we use to protect the new server. All students, faculty, and staff with an ASU email account now have an account on this new server.
Complete setup instructions and tutorials can be found at http://webmaster.appstate.edu/support/ws_app.php or by clicking "Set up a personal web site" on the Webmaster main page.
All user data on the AXP servers saved before Feb. 13 has been migrated to the new server. Any personal websites that are hosted on the AXP servers will automatically show up on the new server. User data on the older AXP servers will not be removed at this time.
To verify that your website is appearing correctly on the new server just change the url on your personal AXP page from www.appstate.edu/~username to www2a.appstate.edu/~username.
We ask that all future personal website updates be uploaded to the new server. Personal web pages hosted on the PM server are fine and will no changes will be required. Users will need to make sure that they use a secure FTP client. They will also need to update the host name in their setup in order to connect to the new server. User data on the older AXP system will not be removed at this time, but the new WWW server will take over the hosting of personal web pages on Monday, Feb 18, 2008. Only accounts on the AXP server will be affected.
Departmental and personal pages hosted on the PM server will not change.
