TSS announces new support website
The new support website, created by the Technology Support Services department at Appalachian, was opened to the public today.
Webserver upgrades
Appalachian State is currently in the process of significantly upgrading the servers that host the personal pages of faculty, staff and students on campus.
Enterprise Systems Maintenance Window
Widely used enterprise systems on campus will be unavailable during maintenance on Thursday, 2/28/2008 from 5:00am to 8:00am.

AppalNet E-Mail Display Problems
AppalNet has been experiencing a caching problem with email. Most users report an error message that displays in place of the text of the email. This problem is easily corrected by deleting cache and cookie files from your internet browser.
E-mail Services Restored
An outage occurred earlier today which made email inaccessible. The email service has been restored and is accessible.
Bogus Email
The email asking users to verify their email account was not sent by Tech Support and should be deleted.

Scheduled Maintenance 3/28/2008
Scheduled maintenance will occur Friday, March 28th from 5AM to 7:30AM. Upgrades will be performed on the Luminus portal, and it is expected that some systems will be unavailable.
Mac User Group Interest Meeting
There will be a Mac Users Group interest meeting on 4/8/2008, at 6PM in Wiseman's Lounge in the Student Union.
Computer Support Summer Hours
The Computer Support Center will be open 8am-5pm from today until the beginning of the Fall 2008 semester.

ITS has scheduled a maintenance workday on Saturday, May 17, 2008 beginning at 6:00 am. This work will affect Banner and other university systems.
Emergency System Maintenance 5-20-2008
The Systems will perform work on the Novell cluster between 5:30 and 6:00 pm tonight, 5/20/2008. Novell shares and printing services may be disrupted for 30 to 60 minutes.
System Maintenance Planned 5/29/2008
Information Technology Services will perform maintenance this Thursday morning (May 29th) from 5:00 am to 7:30 am. The systems that will be affected are Novell, Pcard, Password Change Form, and Traffic registration, and Banner. All systems should be available by 8:00 am Thursday morning.
Planned Maintenance Friday & Saturday, June 20-21
Information Technology Services will perform maintenance Friday & Saturday, June 20-21, 2008. Friday's work will run between 5:00am and 7:30am. The systems that will be affected are Novell, Pcard, Password Change Form, Traffic registration, and Banner. All systems should be available by 8:00 am Friday morning. Saturday's work will begin at 6:00am, and continue throughout the day. The systems that will be affected are Banner and Email.
Name Service Problem
Thursday, July 3rd, 3:20 We are currently experiencing failures with DNS name servers. Most services that require authentication and some sites might not be available at this time.

Bogus Email
The email message asking users to verify their Appstate account is not valid and should be deleted.
Visitor Wireless Network Servicing
Appalachian's wireless infrastructure has undergone upgrades to improve the operation of this network. The 'asu-visitor' network is continuing to undergo service and will be unavailable until service is complete. Access is available for Appalachian students, faculty, and staff is available through the 'asu' network.

Due to software upgrades, online tuition payments will not available from 6PM on Friday, August 1, through about midday on Sunday, August 3.

The incoming freshmen class of Fall 2008 will be the first group to use Google email.

If you are going to watch the presidential inauguration events online, we have been told through MCNC (our Internet Service Provider) that watching via C-Span - http://www.c-span.org/ may be a better online video experience for people, as they anticipate heavy bandwidth usage during this event.
Gaming Club LAN
The ASU Gaming Club will host a LAN party in the Grandfather Ballroom of the Student Union from 3:30 until 10 PM this Saturday, January 31. Admission is free, and pizza will be provided.
Streaming Video and Personal Web Pages
Thursday, January 29, 9:15 am Access to the Streaming Video Server and Personal Web Pages will be unavailable until 10:00am due to a switch failure.
Halo 3 with ROTC
Military Science is hosting a Halo 3 tournament in conjunction with the ASU Gaming Club February 13, 20, and 27 from 1 to 9PM. Funds raised at this event will go to benefit the Appalachian State University Chapter of Perishing Rifles.

After a well publicized virus threat like conficker, you can expect to see more scam messages trying to get users to follow malicious links to keep computers protected.
Maintenance Saturday, April 18th, 2009
The Systems Group needs to utilize the Saturday, April 18th, 2009 maintenance window to perform several necessary maintenance actions. Maintenance will begin on or shortly after 7AM and the majority of the maintenance should be completed by noon. This maintenance will affect several key systems including Banner, iPrint, iFolder, Personal Web Pages, Streaming Services, and GIS. Email and other services will be briefly interrupted as well. Interruption to these services will generally be less than 15 minutes.
