Issues with Wireless Network on Campus
Beginning this morning at 5:30, the Network Infrastructure team began replacement of the main wireless controller for campus. This device failed during move in weekend, and has created disruption in wireless service since that point.
Network Support is currently experiencing issues associated with the replacement and reconfiguration of the new hardware. We are working with the vendor to identify a solution and get this system back up as soon as possible.
We appreciate your patience, and remind everyone that this only affects the wireless Network. All wired Network services are functioning.

AsULearn Unavailable at Times, on 8/27 and 8/29
AsULearn will be unavailable at times, on 8/27 and 8/29
In order to increase the storage available to AsULearn as its use increases, we will be installing and configuring additional data storage on our servers. To install and implement the new storage will require that we make AsULearn unavailable on two occasions this week, at the following times:
6:00 AM until 7:00 AM on Thursday, 8/27/2009 (for physical installation) AND 5:00 AM until 8:00 AM on Saturday, 8/29/2009 (for data transfer and connection)
We regret any inconvenience caused by these truly necessary operations.
Wireless Network Issues
We are aware that there are some problems with the wireless network on campus. Our network support group has been working with Aruba, our enterprise wireless vendor, and have determined that a hardware problem with the master controller is at fault. The vendor is sending us new hardware to fix this problem.
Personal wireless access points also compound the wireless problem, as they interfere with our enterprise system. Please do not use your own wireless access point! If you have a router with wireless built-in, please disable the wireless.
We would also like to remind students living in the residence halls that Appalachian's Residential Network provides a hard wired network connection to students living on campus. All network connections in the residence halls are Ethernet except Justice and Winkler Hall, which utilize DSL.
