Install Applications using Casper Self Service

This guide will show you how to use the Self Service application. The Self Service application replaces the Mac Installers/Mac.acs installer server.

In order to use the Self Service application you are required to use/run an Appalachian State University Mac OS X Operating System or your machine has to be managed by the Casper Suite Server with Recon.

If you choose to have your machine managed by the Casper Suite Server, applications installed via the Self Service application are not guaranteed to be compatibly with your Operating System/configuration and support may be limited.

If you use/run an Appalachian State University Mac OS X Operating System, applications on the Self Service application are guaranteed to be compatibly with your Operating System/ configuration and support will be available.

The Self Service application is similar to the Novell Application Explorer that is available on the Appalachian State University Windows Operating System.

Note 1:  The Self Service application and the applications on the Self Service application are licensed to Appalachian State University and are for “State” owned machines only.  Applications available from this service can not be installed on your home/personal machine.

Note 2:  Some applications may require KeyServer access.  Meaning a network connection to Appalachian State Universities network and KeyServer may be required. Read the Description of the Program to see if KeyServer access is required to run this program.

Note 3:  Some applications may require the purchase of a serial code.  Ex:  Apple iWork 08.  This program is available to install via the Self Service application, but requires the purchase of a serial code.  This code can be purchased from the Appalachian State University Bookstore.

Using the Self Service application:

1. Launch a “Finder” window.
2. In the “Finder” window, navigate to the “Applications” folder listed on the side panel of the “Finder” window. (cmd-shift-A)
3. Locate and launch the “Self Service” application in the “Applications” folder.
Note: The Self Service application is pre-installed in the standard ASU Mac OS X build. It is also available for download from MacInstaller on macsys.its.appstate.edu

5. You are now logged into the Self Service application.

You will see featured Mac OS X applications listed on the main page.  If you navigate into the Categories on the left hand side of the window you will see other programs inside the categories as well as individual installers for programs like Adobe Photoshop,Dreamweaver and InDesign to name a few.  These individual installers for Adobe are for individuals that only want one or two applications, instead of the whole Design Premium Suite.  If you want all the applications from Adobe install them via the Adobe CS3 Design Premium installer. Please feel free to look around and install any applications you need or require.
