How To NetBoot Mac OS X

How To NetBoot Mac OS X

This process is to be only used for ASU owned Faculty and Staff computers.  Once you have received the new Apple computer, please connect the computer to the internet and all of its accessories.  Boot them computer and follow the on screen instructions.  When the screen for “Setup Account” appears, please complete the information with a temporarily account.  DO NOT PUT YOUR INFORMATION IN THERE AT THIS TIME!  Once you have completed the on screen instructions, please register the computer with ASU’s net-registration system

Once the machine has been register to the internet, please follow these step by step instructions.

Step by step

1.  Reboot the Mac and Hold down the N Key

2.  Once the computer has restarted, you will see a “Large Globe” flashing in the middle of

your screen.  This “Large Globe” will change to the normal “Apple” in a couple of seconds.  Once

the “Apple” appears in the middle of your screen you should see a “Small Globe” start spinning.

The “Small Globe” will disappear and turn into “spinning gears”.  It will take a few minutes depending on your network speed to boot the GUI (graphic user interface) for the Netboot

If you DO NOT SEE THE “Small Globe” spinning and just see the spinning gears, then hold down the power button to restart the computer.  It may take a couple times of a hard reboot to get the system to display the “Small Globe”, but once you see the “Small Globe” the system is booting to the NetBoot System.
