Certificate Error in Thunderbird

 

If you are getting an invalid certificate error in Thunderbird and you can't send mail, try these steps to reset your certificates.

If you see any of these messages:

On Windows OS Select “Tools”, then “Options”.

On Mac OS select "Preferences" from the Thunderbird Menu.

Select “Advanced”, then select the “Certificates” tab.

Win TB Cert

Choose “View Certificates” then select the “Web Sites” tab.

On a Mac it looks like this

Select and Delete all of the mail.appstate.edu certificates.

Click “OK” three times to save and exit (quit) Thunderbird.

 

Relaunch Thunderbird and the next time you send mail you will see a screen asking you to verify the identity of mail.appstate.edu. Select Accept this Certificate Permanently

and Click OK 

 

New cert

 

 

You now have a valid certificate and should be able to send mail normally.
